The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist are pleased to announce that Mrs. Margaret Brusher has been selected as our 2011 Medal of St. Dominic Honoree.

When our brand new community moved from the East Coast to Ann Arbor in 1997, Mrs. Brusher and her late husband, Fred, were among the first to welcome us to our new home. They have been devoted friends, believing in the Sisters unceasingly ever since.

As generous, faithful believers in the Catholic Church and the charism of the Dominican Order, they have given sacrificially of themselves in numerous ways to assist with the material needs and growth of our community. The Brushers shared their talents and connections in the antiques world to play a personal, hands-on role in locating, obtaining, and refurbishing some of the most precious elements of the Dominican Sisters of Mary Motherhouse Chapel. Anyone who visits the Sisters for Sunday Vespers can share in the beauty of the antique reredos and see the talent and dedication Mr. Brusher shared in his own re-gilding of the tabernacle.

Beyond the support showed to the Sisters themselves, the Brusher family established a scholarship fund for Spiritus Sanctus Academy in memory of Paul Brusher. The Brusher family wanted to ensure that children who would not otherwise have financial resources to receive a quality education would have the opportunity to do so with the assistance of this scholarship awarded annually since 1999. In the last two years alone, the Brusher family’s generosity has aided 11 children in attending Spiritus Sanctus Academy.
